OUR HISTORY - FOUNDED IN 1982
Elk River Club is the result of a vision by Harry and Spencer Robbins to create an exclusive community offering exquisite high country living and exceptional mountain golf.
By partnering with Jack Nicklaus to design his first North Carolina Signature Course, the Robbins brothers succeeded in setting an unwavering standard of quality with Elk River, a comprehensive, luxurious community that folds 1,200 magnificent acres into the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains.
Today, Elk River Club continues to be ranked as one of North Carolina’s top ten golf courses and has developed a nationwide reputation as one of America’s premier clubs.
A QUINTESSENTIAL MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY
Elk River Club is located around the bend from the charming town of Banner Elk and is surrounded by many diverse, year-round outdoor and cultural attractions that all ages can enjoy.
Outside the gates of Elk River, residents enjoy summer concerts in nearby parks, leisurely drives along The Blue Ridge Parkway, theater at neighboring Lees-McRae College and The Ensemble Stage, cultural events at Appalachian State University, skiing at Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain, hiking along Grandfather Mountain, ziplining through the trees, trips with grandchildren to Tweetsie Railroad and more.

International Airports.
Elk River is a one and a half hour drive from Asheville Regional Airport, two hours from the Charlotte International Airport, two and a half hours from Greensboro’s Piedmont Triad International Airport, and an hour drive from Tri-Cities Airport.
Medical Services.
Three major medical facilities have provided superior healthcare for decades to residents and guests of the High County and to Elk River Club. All are easily and quickly reached by car.
Blowing Rock Medical Park in Blowing Rock, Charles A. Cannon Jr. Memorial Hospital in Linville, and Watauga Medical Center in Boone create the innovative team that is known as Appalachian Regional Healthcare System. Together, the hospitals are enhancing the health care services available in the High County while demonstarating their values of compassion, integrity and excellence. Elk River residents can also find many private medical practices in the area.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Community is at the heart of Elk River. Our members are deeply committed to supporting local charitable efforts and helping neighbors in need throughout Avery County and the High Country.
Elk River played a major role in Hurricane Helene relief, serving as a critical hub for aid and recovery in this end of the county. The Elk River Airport became the primary collection and distribution center, welcoming more than 600 relief flights delivering food, water, medical supplies, and emergency resources to communities most impacted by the storm.
Through generosity, leadership, and hands-on involvement, the Elk River community continues to make a meaningful difference close to home—when it matters most.
A PRIVATELY-OWNED CLUB
At Elk River, our members make us who we are and form the incredible community many enjoy calling home for several months out of the year. As a private, member-owned club, Elk River Club membership is by invitation only and golf membership is limited to 245 members. We offer both resident and non-resident memberships.
