“It’s a smile, it’s a kiss, it’s a sip of wine … it’s summertime!”
Summer days at Elk River Club have arrived, and our members love just how many possibilities present themselves in our region this time of year. Warm weather, close-knit mountain communities and mother nature make for days (and nights) of family-friendly fun. In today’s blog, we’ll touch on your go-to activities at our private country club and move beyond our gates with a sprinkling of summertime events.
Sunshine-Filled Days Here at Home
Anglers find the flowing waters of the Elk River ideal for refining their dapping, double hauling, roll casting and more. Trout thrive in cool North Carolina rivers and mountain streams, and right here at Elk River Club we have a dedicated trout fishery (catch-and-release). Our members take great pride in stewarding this state treasure, brimming with rainbow, native brook and brown trout, bream and rock bass.
Recharge under a canopy of shade with soft mountain breezes at one of our neighborhood parks, or set out on an afternoon adventure on our Town Trail. Hikers make their way to a scenic waterfall, over creeks and along the Elk River. The trail leads outdoor enthusiasts to picturesque Banner Elk, with a stop at the May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
Thanks to the generosity of Ed & Dotti Shelton, our members now have access to a series of “Happy Trails” on Summit Forest Way off of Elk River Parkway. Embark on a hiking adventure on this nearly 100 acre oasis, home to Boundary Trail (1.2 miles), Summit View Trail (0.5 miles) and Meadows Loop (0.3 miles). Change up your riding routine as you traverse Rhododendron Trail with your equine companion.
Feeling Picklish? Pickleball has been a huge hit with our members since its launch in our community last summer. This popular paddle sport combines elements of tennis, badminton & ping-pong, according to USA Pickleball. The pacing makes it great for all levels, and navigating the courts is a breeze thanks to its smaller size. Of course, playing tennis on our world-class Har-Tru tennis clay courts is another win with its soft, sliding surface and cooler temps. Make plans to join one of our weekly mixers or sign up for private or group lessons led by our Director of Tennis, Kenzie Langmade.
Harvard Health recommends swimming as “a good deal when it comes to exercise.” Meditation, movement and breath intermingle, and three types of exercise merge: aerobics, stretching, and strengthening. Take a lap in our outdoor lap pool or dip your feet in with the little ones near our bubblers and sloped beach walk-in. Settle into the perfect reading spot on our spacious deck—you can’t go wrong with the waterfall in view. Find relief in our saunas and reach your daily exercise targets with an invigorating workout at our Wellness Center.
