It’s a new day at Elk River Club—for miles and miles, mother nature sends an unmistakable message—this beautiful region is made for exploring and enjoying. Confirmation comes from the Magnolia Warblers’ whistled weta, alternating between higher and lower pitches before reaching a confident slide. The North Carolina High Country offers an abundance of treasures, whether you are looking for a challenging mountain hike, time to perfect your golf game on a breathtaking course or the chance to make new connections with neighbors. Our roots take us back to 1982 when brothers Harry and Spencer Robbins had a vision to create an exclusive High Country community with exceptional mountain golf. Keep reading for more about what you can expect when playing golf at our Luxury Golf Course Community in NC.

One of America’s Premier Clubs
As North Carolina’s first Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, the Elk River Club experience stands above the rest. Our community encompasses more than 1,200 magnificent acres, Blue Ridge style with altitude ranges from 3,450 feet to 4,650 feet on the course. We have long held our position as one of North Carolina’s Top Ten Golf Courses since opening day in 1984—no surprise to those who experience our club in person. As you would expect given the attention to detail poured into this community, our course is meticulously maintained. There are 35 acres of fairways, 19 greens, 75 tees, 51 bunkers and more, and all receive pre-dawn care by a staff of 20. You’ll return again and again to this pristine course set against the ever-changing Blue Ridge backdrop.

Blue Ridge Beauty
The soothing sounds of the Elk River create an idyllic soundtrack on the green. As you make your way through the course, feast your eyes on shimmering lakes, tree-lined fairways and natural North Carolina beauty. A Links Magazine article about our club reads: “The front nine has an open, meadow-type feel with tall native grasses lining the holes, while the back is a more traditional tree-lined mountain design, with greens cut into hillsides, downhill tee shots, and small streams wandering into play.” Within the piece, playing golf here is described as “easily one of the best mountain courses in the Southeast.”
