We believe there’s no better playground than mother nature and no sweeter place to share moments with family and four-legged friends than Elk River Club. In 1982, brothers Harry and Spencer Robbins chose our Western North Carolina location because they recognized the natural beauty and potential of this place. They knew the altitude ranges from 3,450 feet to 4,650 feet, and the natural topography of the Blue Ridge Mountains would make for a stunning golf course. In 1984, that vision came to life with the unveiling of the state’s first Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, headquartered in our Club. Today, the course continues to attract national attention, and Elk River Club members enjoy a seemingly endless array of community amenities and activities (Har-Tru tennis courts, a pool and wellness complex, Equestrian Center and more). Hiking Trails to Explore

Outdoor enthusiasts are in for a treat with the hiking and biking trail systems to the striking Elk River. The beloved Town Trail begins at our Riverside Park and leads hikers to a gorgeous waterfall. There are creeks to explore, the May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center to discover and the sparkling waters of the Elk River to behold. Town Trail hikers can then make their way into the charming mountain town of Banner Elk.

A Fishing Paradise

The Elk River is known for being home to some of the best trout fishing in the Eastern United States. The waters are a thrill for fly-casters, attracting people from all around the world. Rainbow, native brook and brown trout are plentiful. Set out for an adventure or work with a local guide. All ages are sure to soak up the rays and feel over the moon at their luck on the water.

Sunny Days at the Park (and Something For Your Pup)

Elk River Club members have two impressive parks designed to please all ages (and their pets). If playgrounds are on the agenda, head over to Riverside Park. Home to a deluxe playground and a shiny new dog park, Riverside Park is a hop, skip and a jump away from the Elk River. There are also waterside decks, a cabana and plenty of picnic areas for families and friends to enjoy. Robbins Sunset Park is perfectly situated for members to relish in sunsets gazing west. The spacious deck is an ideal setting for picnics and live music. The custom mountain map makes identifying nearby mountain peaks a breeze.

We’ve given you a glimpse of how family and pet-friendly outdoor activities at Elk River Club can take shape, but with our more than 1,200 acres, the starry mountain sky is the limit!
