Elk River Club members make the decision to purchase property in our sought-after community for a myriad of reasons. Those contemplating our Club who are able to visit know first-hand how our 1,200 acres of Blue Ridge beauty and first-rate amenities intermingle in the best possible way. Whether reading reviews, speaking with long-time residents or asking around the mountain town of Banner Elk, NC, you’ll note our nationally known golf course and world-class amenities paint an enchanting picture. In today’s post, we’re spotlighting our coveted Elk River Club amenities.
North Carolina’s First Signature Jack Nicklaus Golf Course
Many first-time visitors are drawn to Elk River Club because of the Blue Ridge Mountain golf experience found here. The attention to detail given to the course’s design was unmistakable on opening day in 1984; the course continues to receive daily, painstaking care by a dedicated team. The course has 35 gorgeous acres of fairways, 19 greens, 75 tees, 51 bunkers, and more. We’ve earned our nationwide reputation for exceptional golf and tree-lined beauty with altitudes ranges from 3,450 feet to 4,650 feet.
One of the Southeast’s Finest Equestrian Centers
You’ll find our updated, 30-stall Equestrian Center on close to 40 acres of fenced pasture and paddock. Our devoted staff members maintain an ideal environment for the horses, including a covered arena dedicated to training and riding. Besides the Center lies 140 acres of riding preserve and nature trails. Two tack rooms, inside and outside wash racks, and a member’s lounge round out the Center.
A Private, On-Premise Airport
The Elk River Airport is a private facility for the exclusive use of the Elk River Property Owners Association members (and members’ approved Elk River Club guests). This 4,600-foot airport features a well-maintained runway and available private hangers to easily accommodate both private and corporate aircraft. A manned security gate controls access to the hangars and private airstrip. One of our members recently shared an online review, “A jetport capable of planes from C150s up to Falcon 50. We regularly fly single-engine turboprops and twinjets. Wonderful place.”
Har-Tru Tennis Courts & Pool Complex
Playing tennis at Elk River Club is a top-flight experience; our Har-Tru courts make for a desirable playing surface and are up to 20 percent cooler than hard courts. Our Director of Tennis, Harold “H” Wetzel, leads our team of tennis professionals, maintaining a robust calendar of events for all ages. Our glistening pool guarantees summer fun from the moment little ones enter the sloping beach and play in the bubblers. For the fitness-minded, our lap pool is the perfect mix of exercise and refreshment.
Fly-Fishing
Loving and respecting the natural beauty of the Elk River matters to our community. Members look forward to catch and release fly-fishing along the banks of the river; a lucky day might mean admiring the beauty of a rainbow, native brook, and brown trout up close. Our ponds are also brimming with bream and rock bass.
Casual and Fine Dining
Our 50,000 sq. ft. Clubhouse offers a wide range of dining experiences, from casual patio dining to elevated fine dining. The Clubhouse is home to our informal Riverside Grillebar and dining area, our club casual Grille Room, and several executive rooms designed for private parties or meetings. Families love our themed dinners—enjoying Italian fare on Tuesdays, Southern eats on Thursdays, prime rib on Fridays, and sushi on Saturdays.
